Indian Railways
The Indian Railways, abbreviated as IR, is the state owned railway network of India. It is the fifth largest network in the world in terms of track length. The maintenance, operation and growth of the network are ensured by the Ministry of Railways, which is headed by a cabinet rank Railways Minister, while the department is managed by the Railway Board. An interesting fact is that Indian Railways is neither a private nor a public corporate body; however it has recently adopted a corporate management style.
