Tuesday, September 7th, 2010Dog agility training is a really fun hobby to take on if you are an animal lover and you have a fairly intelligent and agile dog. Dog agility training usually consists of training your dog to perform tricks while moving through an obstacle course of sorts. Many dog agility training courses include thinks like tunnels your dog must walk through, hoops your dog must jump through, flags your dog must grab, and many other fun and exciting tricks. If you are interested in training your dog to perform on a dog agility course, your dog should be fully trained in the basics, such as sit, come, stay, etc., before you attempt any kind of dog agility training. Moreover, dog agility training is usually the most successful when dogs are trained on the course form a young age, so make sure to properly train your puppy in the basics early on so you can move on to the agility dog training.
Many large cities have dog parks that have some dog agility training courses on them. Do some quick Internet research to see if any of your local dog parks have dog agility training courses that you and your dog can practice with. If no dog agility training courses are near you, do not despair, you can always train your dogs to do the same tricks in your own backyard with some dog agility training equipment that you can purchase or certain items that you can make out of other household items. Many dog training books have a few chapters on dog agility training and how to train your dog at home for it.
There are also dog agility training classes that you and your dog can attend. Some retail pet stores are likely to hold dog agility training classes every few months. If you have never trained a dog for dog agility training before, it is usually best to get some outside tutelage on the subject. The pet store trainers will be able to give you pointers that will make the process of training your dog much easier for both of you, which in turn will save you a lot of headache. Remember however, that in order for you and your dog to get the most out of these classes, you will have to practice some of the training techniques at home during the week as well. Dogs respond best to training that is consistent and repetitive. If you are serious about training your dog to run an agility obstacle course, make sure to be as consistent as possible and practice as much as possible.

Guard_dog_training
Tuesday, September 7th, 2010Guard dog training is a type of dog training that should be left to professionals. Professional guard dog training companies will teach dogs all they need to know in order to be the best guard dogs possible. This type of training will include teaching the dogs not to be scared when they hear gun fire. Sometimes guard dog training will also include certain aspects of police guard training, including sniffing for explosives, drugs, and even firearms. Because of this highly specialized training, dogs that graduate from guard training programs are vital to the security of many important businesses and locations.
If you are interested in having your dog trained to be a guard dog for your own personal use, guard dog training is not for you. Your dog has already been trained by Mother Nature to barked at odd sounds and things it does not like. However, if you are a security guard interested in getting a canine partner, then getting a dog that has guard dog training is right up your alley. Most professional dog training companies suggest that you choose a puppy that is highly intelligent, such as a Beagle, Labrador, Retriever, or German Shepherd.
If you do choose to have your puppy undergo guard dog training, then start as early as you possibly can. Puppies have to learn a lot in guard dog training and starting earlier is always better. This is because puppies are more easily trained the younger they are and are quicker to pick up new ideas. The cliche “You can not teach a dog new tricks” really does apply here.
Be prepared for the high price of most guard dog training programs. Because of the intensity of the program, many guard dog training companies choose to board the puppy for a number of weeks to fully train your dog. This will cost you even more than guard dog training programs that have you and your puppy come to a training facility a few times a week. Though having your puppy boarded and not having to be involved int he actual guard dog training of your puppy may sound appealing, it is usually not as effective as the programs that have you involved int he training of your puppy. This is because your puppy needs to learn how to follow commands from you, the person who will be giving them most of the time. Though being involved in guard dog training can be tedious, your time and effort will pay off in the long run. Remember, the important aspect of training your dog to be a guard dog is that your dog to be a good one.

House_training_a_dog
Tuesday, September 7th, 2010Many dog owners find house training a dog to be one of the most difficult training tasks. However, if dog properly, house training a dog will be a rather simple and easy process that will not take very long for you and your dog to master. The most important things to remember when house training a dog is to always be consistent and to have patience. Dogs are very perceptive when it comes to humans’ feelings and they will be able to pick up your frustration and anger and will l respond even less positively to your house training attempts.
The easiest way to practice house training a dog is with crate training. A crate is a large metal cage (that many owners put comfortable beds in) that is no wider than the dog is long. This is so that the dog does not have a lot of room in the crate to move around. If he or she can not move a lot, he or she will not go to the bathroom. Then, as soon as the dog is let out of the crate, the owner should take the dog outside and praise the dog when he goes to the bathroom. While house training a dog, a puppy should be left in the crate at night and whenever no one is around. A puppy should not be left in the crate longer than his or her bladder can stand, however. Most young puppies are able to hold their urine for about four to five hours.
Though crate training is touted as the easiest form of house training a dog, there will still be accidents. Be prepared for them and do not overreact when you find them. If you happen to catch your puppy going to the bathroom where he or she should not, simply say “No” and pick him or her up and place him or her outside on the grass. When the puppy goes to the bathroom outside, make sure to praise him or her generously. Do not stick a dog’s nose in his or her mess while house training a dog. This simply confuses and terrorizes the puppy.
If you do not actually catch your puppy going to the bathroom but simply find the mess, do not even reprimand your puppy while house training a dog. This is because a puppy has a very limited memory and may not even remember going to the bathroom in
Dog_training_tips
Tuesday, September 7th, 2010The most important dog training tips for you to learn are to be consistent and patient. Other good dog training tips to take to heart are to practice commands with you dog as much as possible and to always reward your dog for performing the command properly. Rewards can be either food treats, a toy, or just simple praise. You can learn a lot more dog training tips by talking to your vet. He or she will be able to tell you how long you should practice your dog’s training daily, what specialized training supplies you will need, if any, and where you should practice your dog’s training.
You can also learn a lot of dog training tips by talking to the staff at your local pet stores. Most staff members are required to go through some animal knowledge and training classes and will be able to give you a number of useful dog training tips when choosing what supplies to purchase for your dog in training. Additionally, many pet stores offer training classes on site, so you may even be able to ask the training instructors for dog training tips. However, the instructor may ask you to pay for and join his or her class in order to glean all the dog training tips he or she may provide.
Another great source of dog training tips are dog training books. Because owning a dog has become such a popular option for Americans, numerous books on how to train dogs have begun to populate the shelves at your local book store. These books will be filled with dog training tips. Make sure you choose a book with a lot of informational pictures so that you can easily follow the training technique when you try to train your dog. Moreover, make sure you choose a book with dog training tips on troubleshooting dog training. Sections like these will help those owners whose dogs do not respond the way the book predicts they will during training.
You can also always find dog training tips by searching the Internet. However, make sure to take the dog training tips you find online with a grain of salt. Not everything you read online is one hundred percent factual and sometimes the dog training tips may not be as helpful as they should be. If you ever doubt anything you read online, make sure to ask your vet before attempting the tip with your dog during his or her training. This double checking will ensure the health and happiness of your dog as well as the success of your dog’s training.
