Our International Water Crisis

Sunday, October 4th, 2009

You are thirsty. You get a cup and walk over to the kitchen faucet. When you turn the spigot, clean, fresh, satisfying water comes out. You probably don’t stop to think how lucky you are, and how millions of people around the world cannot do this simple act.

There is currently a water crisis on our panet; people are dying. Why do we have this crisis when there seems to be water all over the world? Because, hard as it is to believe, just 3% of the world’s water is drinkable. Most of this undrinkable water is salt water coming from the oceans, and salt water is unfit for drinking.

As for the drinkable water, a majority of it has been polluted or contaminated thanks to our industrial waste and large companies refusing to stop dumping waste into normally safe sources of drinking water.

Most of us in well-off nations like the USA don’t even notice that all this is going on in the world because we are blessed with more than enough clean drinking water. Many businesses or offices we visit now provide bottled water for us to drink. More often than not, when we dine at a restaurant we are served a glass of water as soon as we arrive. We are even able to get bottled water from vending machines.

While humans must have water to live healthy lives, millions are ill or dying because of the water crisis, especially people in developing countries where they are even fighting over water. In this crisis, the highest death rates are suffered by infants and the very old. The number that shocks me most is 4,900 — that is how many babies die every day because of lack of clean drinking water.

Gradually it has become clear that there is an immediate need for new water treatment plants or new ways to treat sewage water. And these are the new water machines that we genuinely need.

Certainly this is a very tall order for our world today. Now a new generation of machines produce water out of air, and special treatment plants take the salt out of saltwater.

With the crisis becoming worse, there are many companies, some of them new, working on technology not even dreamed of as yet. The crisis is becoming worse because our underwater sources in some areas are becoming polluted which makes this water crisis one that could affect the United States as well as other developed countries.

Almost 500 gallons of drinkable water can be produced — right out of the air — by a machine now on the market. This water machine isn’t portable, but at least this new technology is being developed.

Water machines that are small and portable will probably be the wave of the future; they will surely be located in virtually every home, restaurant, office, and business. But at least the crisis is finally being acknowledged. Has this realization come too late? We trust not.

Newest Form Of Marketing, Custom Label Bottled Water

Monday, June 15th, 2009

Custom bottled water is available as an advertising or marketing device on many websites on the internet.  Basically, it is bottled natural spring water with your companies logo or trade mark on the custom make labels.

Natural Spring Water is water that flows naturally to the surface from a spring source without the need to drill or use pumps. Spring Water retains all of its minerals. Bottling at the source eliminates the need to use chemicals required to prevent contamination if the water were to be transported to an alternate site for bottling.

Get straight to your body’s hydration needs with the very elements of good health and vitality. Forget the salt, sugar, flavors and various impurities and toxins found in most waters. We’re talking about straight up H2O. Period.

The human body is almost 70% water. Water supports every function of your body in a big way, from temperature regulation to dissolving and flushing out toxins and impurities. Nothing can cleanse and quench your body like pure, distilled water. This is the most important drink that you can have (and Element H2O is oxygenated, which gives its extra ordinary flavor and clear, clean taste).

Many ailments and unhealthy conditions have been related to various forms of mineral accumulation in the body, from kidney failure to arthritis. It has been shown that distilled water actually removes these minerals from the body by dissolving them, instead of introducing more impurities like “Hard Water” and water from other impure sources.

The first 2 pages of a Google search on custom bottled water, has websites for water coming from any pure spring in our country, each claiming to be the purest and best tasting.  They offer different deals on the custom labels also.

This seems to be the newest and most popular way to get your brand, and logo out before the public.  Just when you thought there were no more clever, creative and affordable ways to get your name, logo, theme or message in the hands of your customers, prospects and constituents, along comes Custom Labeled Bottled Water. Go ahead, look around – how many people do you see carrying their own bottle of water. A number of isn’t it? Everyone today knows the health benefits of drinking more water, so consider all the creative ways you can tap this army of walking billboards.  A large assortment of calorie free flavors to flavor sparkling water to great taste is sold at http://allfreightfree.com.

The most unique form of branding that I found was this: “ Give your big day a mark of distinction with your own personal brand of bottled water for your guests. The added touch of personalized bottled water on your wedding day lends a certain cachet to an already auspicious event. Make an impression on your guests with your attention to detail. Select from our designer wedding labels and personalize it by giving your own message. Perfect for weddings, cocktail receptions, engagement parties and outdoor wedding festivities.”

I guess you could even use this way to announce the birth of your first son – private label bottled water named after the baby.  I am certain if I set here long enough, I can think of a million more or funnier but I believe you get the idea from the above.  So goes the marketing of custom bottled water.

Soda Water Explained

Friday, April 24th, 2009

Soda water, or carbonated water, is also referred to as sparkling water, and is plain water to which carbon dioxide gas has been added. It is the most dominant ingredient of most “soft drinks.”. This process of carbonation forms carbonic acid which is soda pop.

By using a seltzer bottle filled with water and then “charged” with carbon dioxide, soda water (also called club soda) can be produced right at home. Club soda may be virtually the same as plain carbonated water; however, a small amount of table salts and/or sodium trace minerals may be present. Additives like these could make the taste of home made soda water slightly salty. In many areas this process is a natural occurence and produces carbonated mineral water.

It’s possible that, in some cases, a little dental decay might be related to sparkling mineral water. The potential problem of sparkling water is slightly greater than “still” water, but the problem remains low. Regular soft drinks are apt to cause a much higher rate of tooth decay than sparkling water. The rate is so low it suggests that carbonation may not be a factor in causing dental decay.

Artesian wells can be the source for waters that filter among layers of minerals in the ground; the layers contain forms of carbonates, and the waters absorb the carbon dioxide gases produced by those carbonates. The result? Natural sparkling water. If the water also picks up enough different minerals to become flavored, it becomes sparkling mineral water.

Fundamentally, soda water is just water and carbon dioxide. A naturally-occuring product of carbonation is sparkling mineral water. In 1794, a jeweler invented a device to produce an artificial carbonated mineral water.

A taste test of several carbonated drinks determined that Perrier, a sparkling natural mineral water, kept its fizz the longest.

For consumers who believe seltzer to be a bit harsh, club soda offers a more gentle fizz. In the taste test, club soda seemed to be milder and a little sweeter tasting than standard carbonated water.

Club soda, sparkling mineral water, seltzer, and carbonated water have zero calories, making them a dieter’s choice over soda pop and tonic water.

Tonic water is a type of carbonate drink containing water, sugar, carbon dioxide and quinine. Quinine’s first use in tonic water was medicinal — as an additive to help cure or prevent malaria. Today it is often mixed with gin and lemon or lime to create an alcoholic drink.

Now you have a better understanding of soda water.
