Stand Apart in Your Red Dansko Clogs

Saturday, August 1st, 2009

With a good of shoes on her feet, a woman can adjust to anything. And she can do it pain free. No other wearable object wields such power. Women all over the world covet the comfortable shoe. We hunt for them, compare them, store them for next season, keep them long past their due date, and expect them to gloriously update the dreariest of fashion ensembles.

Whether they cost ten bucks or 500, a woman’s shoes say much about her mood, her values, and her personal style. Take Danskos, for example. Now this is a shoe for the active woman who wants support and comfort without having to wear tennis shoes in public. Available in an endless variety of colors, this is the comfortable shoe for the woman who swore she’d never wear comfortable shoes. I know, because I am that person. My feet are wide, yet the styles I tend to like simply do not come in wide widths. All my adult life I’ve suffered in the name of fashion. I’ve worn strappy leather sandals, cork wedges, kitten heels, high-heeled loafers, you name it. But comfortable shoes? Ha! Forget it. I’d rather go barefoot through the snow.

Being a girl from the city, I was absolutely floored when I first moved to Indiana. It didn’t take long for me to notice that almost no-one wears stylish, high heeled shoes around here. And those who do are apparently not appreciated for their sense of style. Rather, they’re seen as frivolous. And not in a good way. I was in the country now, and I was surrounded by sensible conservatives. I never got compliments on my flashy shoes anymore. I got sideways-glancing looks of disapproval.

To say I stuck out like a sore thumb in the red suede stilettos with the brass grommets that I like to wear with my distressed jeans is a gross understatement. Suddenly, dismayed to find there was nowhere to wear all my fabulous shoes, I packed them up (along with my single girl outfits) and my sassy, single girl attitude. I wasn’t a single girl who could spend half her paycheck if she wanted to on handbags and shoes anymore. I was married. Thoroughly married. To a wonderful man who appreciates the wisdom of the “comfortable shoe-wearing girl”.

And so it was, on the day my wonderful new husband took me out to Main Street in search of sensible walking shoes, that I found my first pair of these Dansko shoes. Before we entered the store, I told him that I was was determined to be sensible. Inside, I felt sad. I felt certain that pleasing my husband meant I would have to go home with a truly ugly pair of walking shoes. Shoes made for seniors in personal care homes. Shoes made for those with multiple orthopedic complaints. What I found that day was like an epiphany. There they were – cherry red Mary Janes, with just a bit of a heel, and a buckle strap across the bridge of the foot that once in place, would stay that way. Just looking down on these beauties makes me smile!  These are seriously sweet shoes! They rock as you walk! The sole is designed to roll forward as you step onto the ball of your foot, then rock gently back as your weight shifts to the other foot. What ingenious engineering.

I have clocked countless hours in my Dansko clogs. I wore them through two pregnancies – back-to-back and with only three months between. I never, not once, complained of lower back pain, and I was on my feet a lot. My knees hurt a bit, but I’d never blame the Danskos for that. I blamed the babies. My feet never felt better. Sure, the toes are round. “All the better for wiggle room, my dear”, says the sensible woman my husband would like me to be. And in my red Dansko Mary Janes, I know he smiles with pride, walking with his cool-yet-sensible wife, hand in hand down the nature paths and along Main Street in quaint little main-street Indiana.

Cheap Bag At Coach Factory Outlet Store

Tuesday, July 28th, 2009

You can get your Coach handbag cheaply at Coach factory outlet store.  So why pay more for the same thing?  We lived on a farm so it was a big deal to go into the larger city that was a half hour drive from our house to go shopping. It would be a special treat to be able to go with mom.  She would always make it a special day because we got to pick out one item of clothing and we went out to lunch. It is so great that I always linked shopping and fun together as one item.

My oldest sister also loves to shop. She and her husband have a great deal of money so she does a lot of buying also. She still remembers her roots and never pays full price for anything. We often go to sales and outlet malls together to spend time shopping and catching up. Our family shopped at this departmental store the last time and it had this big sales going on.

I am not one that needs to have brand name items, but I did see a coach handbag that was on clearance sale for a great price. I told my sister that I needed a new purse and I thought I would buy it. She told me to wait until we went to the coach handbag outlet.

When we arrived at the coach handbag outlet they did have a wide selection of purses, however the majority of them were from the last season. The prices were remarkably low; however they did not have the style that I had seen at the department store. I told my sister that I was going to buy the one from the department store when we went back to get my vehicle.

Coach Factory Handbag Outlet Store is great but sometime they lack the selection.

Back in the 1970s the Kings Road was closely associated with ‘Punks’, who proved to be an attraction in London themselves. However, the Kings Road is more subdued these days and no longer just a haunt of the followers of the anti-fashion era.

Sloane Street is a street in London which runs north to south, and takes its name from Sir Hans Sloane, who purchased the surrounding area in 1712. Sloane Street has has, for a long time, been a fashionable shopping district, but is probably just as well known for lending it name to the ‘Sloane Rangers’ in the 1990s. The name Sloane Ranger was applied to the stereotypical young upper class English ladies seen in the area during this time. (One famous woman often referred to as a Sloane Ranger was Lady Diana Spencer)

Harrods department store in Knightsbridge is the worlds largest department store standing on 18,000 m2. The Harrods motto is ‘Omnia Omnibus Ubique’  meaning all things for all people, everywhere’. A very exclusive and luxurious department store, Harrods is famous the world over for its food hall and its toy department.

Another famous London department store is Selfridges in Oxford Street. In 1909 and american businessman called Gordon Selfridge opened the doors of his London shop to the public which is simply known as “Selfridges”. When it opened Selfridges set new standards for the retailing business. This was because all of the shop floors were designed so that goods on sale were more easily accessible to the customer.
